We have adopted domestically!

Adoption is something I always wanted to do. I have always had a heart for anyone or anything needing a home. I warned my hubby before we married that I wanted to adopt a special needs child later in life, after our own kids. He was OK with that. Little did he know, I met our future daughter just days after we were married. She was 2yrs old and went to school at the  special needs preschool where I worked. She had some environmental delays due to some drug exposure while in the womb. She had been in foster care since 9 months old and the judge was near to taking away parental rights. I called my husband and said, "Baby, there is this little girl you have to meet. She is up for adoption!" He said he would at least meet her but wasn't sure about the rest.

He came by one day during work. I had my class out to recess so he was waiting in the lobby for me. A therapist came by with LaMiracle, and, not even knowing who he was, she gave him a big hug. He was sold right away.

I called the local DSS agency and asked how to go about starting the process. I figured that we could go through the classes and the paperwork. If we didn't qualify, at least we would know what to expect for out future adoptions. I knew God would let us have her if it was His will. We started the process of a *high risk* foster to adopt. LaMiracle was not yet officially up for adoption because her parents still had rights. This was October 2006.

We went through all the paperwork and meetings but failed our fire inspection. We were renting at the time and the bedroom windows were not up to code. We contacted a realtor right away and began looking for an affordable house.

Through this entire process, I think we doubted we would get approved. We were young. Only married 3 months! Several people doubted we were making a good decision. We were so excited to get LaMiracle, but several people were worried we were taking on more than we could handle. I just knew that God would only let it happen if it was His will. Also, we had decided to go ahead and try to have a baby of our own since LaMiracle was already 2. We didn't want her to feel super alone. We found out we were pregnant in February 2007. The baby was due in October. We were counting on getting LaMiracle after the court date in June, so we hoped it would all work out perfectly.

When we finally found a house we liked and could afford, we moved forward with the purchase. However, the house was in a different county so the adoption had to be transferred. This meant that several bits of the adoption paperwork had to be redone. We were not too worried, but this pushed things back a couple of months, and I was due at the end of October.

October came and we got our approval. We were so excited and nervous at the same time. Our JJ ended up coming two weeks early on October 15th. We were happy new parents with a super fussy baby. Our case worker thought that maybe we should wait a few months for LaMiracle to move in. We insisted we would be fine and praise God we were. LaMiracle moved in on November 5, 2007. The court wanted us to foster for 6 months just in case we changed our mind with the new baby and all. That was fine, but I knew I wasn't quitting. My mom taught me better than that.

We were in love immediately. We had a lot of adjusting to do and so did LaMiracle. God had His hand in it though, and she was a trooper. To this day, I forget that we haven't had her since birth. She fit into our family so perfectly. We have so many good memories and look forward to the ones we will continue to make! Miracle, as we call her, loves her brother JJ.  They are best friends. She gets a lot of, "Why is your momma white?", questions, but they never slow her down. She just says, "I'm adopted", like...duh! She does have questions and I am always telling her the adoption story. When she asks why she's adopted...I just tell the truth: Your real momma loved you but couldn't take care of you. I wanted a little girl, and God saw fit to give me a Miracle!

Her first visit. She was 3yrs old! Grammy was up from Michigan to help us, and Miracle brought her favorite Halloween pumpkin!

June 2, 2008-Adoption Day- I had a horrible case of strep throat and spent the night before in the ER. It was still one of the best moments of my life!
Happy 8th Birthday!

Look at her now! Growing way to fast and loved so very, very much!

Our new journey is about to begin!!

Hello Friends!

It has been a long time since a good update. I'm seriously slacking on the blogger train! I have been super busy and slightly distracted with helping my kids make some good memories during the last few days of summer break!

Tomorrow is a big day for us. I start professional development for my new teaching position!! God is so good. We finally got that miracle I have been in constant prayer for! God is so good! My kids are excited but anxious. Miracle is not ready to start school, and JJ is not too sure about heading back to Mrs. Dana's house while I work. He loves it there and has tons of fun....but he has gotten used to being with mommy. I'm super excited about the prospect of summers off though...and that will be what keeps us going throughout the school year!

I will try to update often! I hope you all have had a wonderful summer!

For my Wonderful Dad

When I was little, I thought fathers day was special because I loved my dad, but I had no idea of how much he did for me in my young mind. I just knew he was pretty cool. As I get older and have my own kids now, I can look back in awe at the kind of dad God saw fit to give me. Boy did I put him through the ringer. Being the wild child that I was, I think I pushed every possible button and yet my dad remained calm. He did serve out punishments but never what I deserved.

My dad was always pretty busy with work. I hope he realizes what he taught us by his unfailing example of hard work and commitment. He lives his faith. He worked 40+ hours a week and still made sure we were in church whenever the doors were open. He did not just preach doing whats right, but he lived it. My dad's voice is a part of my conscience. I can always here him saying, "Holly, I don't think that's a good idea." or some other bit of advice that helps me to stay on the right path. He also unknowingly helps me with disciplining my own children. I look to his examples quite often. I do what my dad did. It's just as easy as that.

It must have been really hard for him to see me going down dangerous paths, but he was always there to give me a hug when I failed.....and a good grounding of course:) He supports me from afar, and I feel it every day. I love him more than I could ever say.

Dad, please know that every good and right decision that I make is because of your hard work and love that you put into me as I grew up. Psychologists say that your environment can be blamed for more than half of the way that you turn out. I'm proud to say that. God gave me the absolute best environment to grow up in. I want that for my kids in every way. They love their papa, and they look up to you like I do. Thank you for putting up with me. Thank you for loving me no matter what. Thank you for just being you!

I wish I could give you a big hug tomorrow, but I can't. Just know I will be sending one your way in spirit!

Happy Fathers Day to the best, best, best Father in the entire world!

Itch to remodel

Did you ever get an itch to remodel but have absolutely no extra money to put towards new furniture? Recently, I found myself in this boat. I'm trying to kinda get my house ready for selling 'just in case' the need arises. In doing this, I am trying to update our bedroom furniture. We recently updated my daughters room with a beautiful full set that my husband got for free off of a job he did. We got an awesome offer from a friend to get her old bedroom set for our bedroom which is wonderful because I have wanted a matching set FOREVER! So two of our three rooms are covered. My sons room had some pretty old looking, pressed wood furniture that I sold on craigslist for super cheap. He has bunkbeds that are perfectly fine but he needed a nice looking dresser. Well....my hubby and I had an older dresser in our room that we were going to get rid of because of our new 'used' set that is coming in. I decided to give that old dresser a makeover for JJ's room. It settled my itch for remodling for awhile, and it turned out SUPER well.

This is a picture of the drawers after the hardware was removed and they were sanded. It was a beautiful red cherry color but it was all dinged up needed a face lift. (This was another free piece of furniture so I felt I could not go wrong with trying to fix it up!) So I started sanding. It took FOREVER but was well worth it now that I can see the finished result. I'm sorry I did not get a picture of the dresser before I primed it.

Here is the dresser after the 2nd coat of spray primer. Being a complete newbie to sanding and painting, I took the easy way with the spray primer. It worked really well and was super easy to put on. After several coats of primer, I started with the paint. I went back and forth between painting the dresser black and white. In the end, I chose black because I thought it was better for a boy! As you can see in this picture, the dresser has some really hard to sand decorative sides. They were a pain! I did not use spray paint for the black. I just used some regular black semi-gloss and a good old fashioned paint brush.

This is a not so great picture of the finished product. It looks absolutely brand spanking new! JJ loves it and it looks much better than his old stuff. The awesome thing was that I used the money that I earned by selling his old stuff to by the materials needed to sand and paint. The dresser is missing two of the knobs on one drawer, but its done aside from that! What do you think??

Happy Early Mothers Day to the BEST mother in the world!

This post is dedicated to my mom. There are always times in life when a person wishes for something other than what they have. I have wished for straight hair instead of curly. I have wished for longer legs instead of short. I have wished for a louder personality...where I am never afraid to be who I am. I have wished for better clothes, more money, more stuff, a bigger house, a job, a different car, a different yard for my children, and many, many other things. It always hard for a human to be content. One thing I can say I have NEVER wished for is another mother. I was, after all, given the best one of them all. It was not until I had children of my own that I realized the extent of my own mothers sacrifice for me. She went without things for herself for so many years in order to put me through a private school and a private college. My dad helped, of course, but it was her passion to make it all happen. She gave of herself so much more than I feel I give to my kids. I try. I really do. I just never feel like I could be a mother like my mother was to me. I know she went through hard times. She had a rough upbringing which caused her a lot of pain as an adult. I hardly ever knew this as a kid though. She just had an amazing way of carrying on. She showed me what a mother should be like. She showed me Christ through her actions. When I first started college 800+ miles away from home, she gave me her personal Bible to take with me. I have held that Bible near and dear to my heart. It reminds me of her. It's marked pages remind me of her true love for the Lord which has always been a marvelous example to me. I cannot ever imagine losing her. I hope I never have to.

I love you mom. Thank you for being all that you are to me! Happy Mothers Day!

In whom shall I place my trust?

Sometimes, I wish I could just start things over. Go back to my junior year of high school and make better choices and choose different directions. Sadly, then I probably wouldn't have my wonderful husband or my beautiful two children. That just wouldn't work. I may enjoy getting to do it over but then I would regret having given up my wonderful family.

Sometimes I think I should go back to just a few years back...before I became a stay at home mom. Maybe I should have just given into the pressures and went against my beliefs. Things would surely be different today. That is for sure. Sadly, then I would have to live with knowing that I had done less than my best. That won't work either.

Sometimes, I regret ever moving to SC. We left family and got into severe debt by going out on our own. That really would not have worked though. I would not have met my beautiful LaMiracle. She is such a perfect fit into our small but perfect life. I cannot imagine having not met her. She is now a permanent part of my heart. Staying in MI would definitely not have worked.

Aren't these horrid thoughts anyway? That's just me. I am a horrible, sinful person and that why we are going through these struggles in the first place. The world is sinful, and we all have to face those consequences in some ways. Some less than others.

The good thing is that I have God on my side. I can pray those thoughts away. I can read my bible and know that God is good. I have no idea why He allows families to go through struggles, why He allows children to die, why He has allowed cancer to run rampant, why He leads us in ways that I cannot understand. I do, however, know that God allows all of these things for a very perfect reason. After all, He is perfect. I also understand that every trial makes us stronger and draws us closer to Him if we trust Him. I choose to trust Him.

In reality, I wouldn't take any of it back. I wouldn't, couldn't change even one thing about where we are today. God's plans are not my plans. He has given me, my whole family really, so much. We have our health, and we are together. This roller coaster of life is completely scary and mind boggling, but He gave me the BEST people to enjoy the ride with! They even let me scream once in awhile when I'm scared out of my mind....or just plain cranky.

Thank you Lord for my family. Thank you for all that You have given us. I'm so sorry for every being ungrateful.

"As for me and my house, We will serve the Lord" Joshua 24:16

Easter 2012

We had a WONDERFUL Easter! My kids had spring break the week before and my parents came all the way from Michigan to enjoy the fun week! We don't see them enough so every chance to see them is  made as fun as possible! We spent a lot of time just visiting. I love that I have a close family. It does my heart good to see all the cousins playing together and the adults visiting and laughing!

The kids colored 7 dozen eggs....WOW! It sounds like a lot but everybody had to take some home so we needed tons! Everybody had fun trying to be artistic for a few hours!
Earlier in the week, my parents van that they drove down started to have some issues. My dad had already put a large amount of money into fixing it up and was really upset to have another major part go out while they were close to 900mi away from home! After getting it into a mechanic down here and after much prayer, they decided that they would buy a new car. They had been planning to do so in the fall anyway....so it all worked out OK! My mom was beyond happy to get her dream car! She raised five kids and almost always bought used....this is her first new car!!

On Sunday, we all got up and got ready for church. I, of course, had to snap a few family pictures. My kids have gotten so big! They both looked great in their new outfits!

After church, we headed to my sister Christy's house for a huge dinner and an Easter egg hunt! This is a picture of my wonderful family minus one brother in law. He had to work:(

I love, love these people. God has been so good to me in giving me this family! We had so much fun together and made lots of memories! Here are a few more of the family pictures...

The Splan Clan

All because two people fell in love!

After our big, wonderfully tasty dinner, the kids geared up for our big Easter egg hunt. They all got a ton of candy! The kids really enjoyed it!

Nana and Papa love to spoil the grand kids. They gave each kid a little bunny that could be stuffed with candy. It was pre-stuffed by Nana of course...with nothing but sugar:) The kids loved it!  Thank you Nana and Papa!

All in all, it was a great week! We were all sad to see it come to an end! In all of our celebrating, we all took the time to remember the wonder of the day. He is risen! Our wonderful Savior! Praise the Lord for His wonderful gift to us!

I hope you all had a pleasant Easter too!

Happy Spring

Hello friends! Spring is in full swing here in SC. The weather had been beautiful! We barely had a chance to enjoy the wonderful sun before it got too hot! I convinced Miracle to put on her Easter sun dress for some pictures by our beautiful bush in the back yard. JJ refused to change so we just did him as is. I got a few cute ones. They are both at the super cheesy smile age....a natural laugh or smile is really hard to force out of them:)

They have both grown so much over this past year! I am truly blessed for having the wonderful blessing of spending more time with them lately! God is good! My plans are not His plans, but His plans are always better for sure.

We are all looking forward to spring break next week because Nana and Papa are coming to visit! We have not seen them in far too long! I have been cleaning the house and getting things ready. My laundry is actually done...for today anyway:) JJ has been gone that last two days, and I have just about gone crazy. I'm so not an ALONE kind of person. Even a four year old is better company than none! Who knows what I will do once he goes to school! I'm glad they are growing, and I am so so thankful that they are healthy....but can they just stay young a little bit longer?

Funny story...the other day JJ and I were playing 'I Spy' in the car on our way home from the store. I said, "I spy something brown." He immediately said, 'Sissy?' I chuckled to myself before addressing the overall issue. It was just too cute. In his innocence, he just knows that sissy's skin is brown. He did not mean anything with his answer...he was just stating the obvious. Poor Miracle is so brave and strong. Thank goodness she is a strong little girl. She often gets the question, "Why is your mommy white?" (Kids will be kids...you know!) I cringe for her on the inside, but she just says, "I'm adopted". She really does not seem to care about the questions, but I worry that its hurting her on the inside. Her and I had a discussion about this ever present question as I was putting her to bed last night. I reminded her that even though we have different skin colors, God loves us all the same. He put us together. She may be physically a bit darker, but she is still a part of this family. I hate that color even matters. I hope and pray that she understands and remains comfortable with the subject as she gets older. Kid's can be so mean. As much as I want to protect her from their mean words, I can't. The good thing is...She has God on her side:)

Josh has been working like crazy! Poor guy. About every 4 weeks he goes through the ringer....the last time he was on call he had 30 hours of overtime in one week! He barely gets home before the pager goes off on most days. The worst times are when he just falls asleep and...beep, beep, beep. Poor guy. I do a lot of praying when he is on call!

I love this stud!

Overall, we are just enjoying life one day at a time! Loving the arrival of spring, praying for our answer to prayer, and trying not to take anything for granted anymore!

I hope you all are having a GREAT spring!

Random Update!

My parents are coming to town the first week in April. I do have to say that I have been busy preparing for spring and for their arrival. I am excited that now that Miracle has a bigger bed, they can stay with me if they would like to. I know that all of my siblings are looking forward to this time also. February has flown by and we are enjoying every minute that we can here at the Splan house. Miracle has been busy in second grade. She is learning a lot, and I am so proud of her. JJ had been busy with me having fun and enjoying our time together. Josh has been working a lot. Something which is tiring but we are very thankful for. He has also been busy at work updating our home and making it look wonderful. Well I hope that you are all anticipating spring as much as we are. Enjoy all the beautiful weather and wonderful times with your families. :)

Grammy came to town!

The beginning of 2012 started out wonderfully with a visit from Grammy! The last time she was able to come was when JJ was only  6 months old so we had a lot of catching up to do. Normally, our families always get together for Christmas, but this is the first year that we were not able to make it home to MI. So we decided to bring the family to us! We all had a blast. I am so blessed to have a wonderful mother in law. She and I get along very well and can enjoy each others company quite easily. I am so grateful for a wonderful relationship. She will never add up to my own wonderful mother, but she takes a close second for sure!

The kids had the most fun!

My husband has a very close relationship with his mom.
Cliffy even managed to enjoy some of Grammy's visit!
It was really hard to see her go! Good byes are so hard. We know that this is where God wants us to be right now, but being away from our parents can be extremely difficult. We praise the Lord for every time we are able to make it to MI to see them. My husbands current job does not allow very many vacation days whether they be paid or unpaid. We are praying fervently that God either changes his bosses heart or that Josh can find a better position once things settle down in our lives. There are a lot of things we can deal with but taking away our chance to see family is not one of them!

I, on the other hand, am enjoying a part time position for a middle school. I love working with middle school kids and am enjoying this opportunity immensely! My family is so blessed already this year. God is so good to us!

Miracle and JJ are loving life as always. Miracle is flying through second grade with ease. She enjoys academics and is starting to mature enough to save her social times for recess and after school! We still get an occasional 'T' for talking, but we are seeing a major improvement this year. JJ is growing like a weed. I get asked why he is not in school all the time. He is really big for his age, and I find myself explaining his late birth date quite often! I want to put bricks on both of their heads and hold onto these young years! We are enjoying that they can do more for themselves, but mommy says its going way to fast!

I hope you all are having a wonderful January! Tax season is upon us, and we are crossing our fingers for a decent return. With all the crazy events of last year, we just aren't sure how it will turn out! I will update again soon...PROMISE:)

Blog Stealer strikes again!

Well, dear friends, my dear sister has been a bit busy. (Too busy to blog) During the holidays she was busy enjoying family as she should be. Since the holidays, she has been enjoying her wonderful mother-in-law. I was such a sweet sister to agree to bring Sue back from the wonderful state of Michigan so she could enjoy some time with her son and daughter-in-law. Sue and I decided to leave Michigan a little later than I normally would on my dad's advisement, because of weather. So, we get on the slightly still icy roads to head south. Smooth sailing through Michigan. Then we hit Ohio. Snow was blowing like crazy limiting visibility so we had to slow way down. We could not wait to reach Kentucky a state that was more south therefore less snow right? Um NOT. We hit Kentucky boarder and had smooth sailing for the first twenty miles. Then we hit snow and ice. We went from 70 mph to 10 mph. Our two hour trip through Ky turned into seven, and we were not even through the state. On all of my family's advisement we got off to find a hotel, just like all the other people in the traffic jams. Thankfully I am a northern driver and know how to drive in this stuff, but I was so scared of the crazy drivers around me who were flooring it on the ice. SCARY. After five hotels, I was ready to give up and continue. My wonderful sister Holly, got up to get online and reserve me a room at the hotel where I was waiting in line. After she did that, the twenty people in line seemed to speed up. We got our room slept and started again. Taking an alternate route home, we finally and safely made it to the state of SC. Holly was so worried bout us, but also so thankful to see us when we arrived here. Needless to say after all that rambling, Holly has been busy having a blast with her mother-in-law. Tomorrow will be the day that Sue heads back to the snowy state of Michigan, and Holly and I are going to be staying in abnormally warm SC. She will be busy still, hopefully able to blog on her own soon.
If you have made it through this long ramble from me, I am amazed. I was just telling you some of the stress and things Holly has been up to. Hope that you all enjoyed the Holiday season. Remember to treasure every moment with your family that God grants you. Don't forget to support our country this weekend. VOTE!

Christmas Eve in SC 2011

Crazy that Christmas Eve is here:) Our family has had to do some major psyching ourselves up for a Christmas in SC. The kids are not effected as much as Josh and I, but its still weird. We have always been in snow filled MI for Christmas. I have never missed Christmas morning with my mom and dad. I guess its a miracle that I have managed to miss that part of being a grown up. The part where you are supposed to start your own Christmas traditions at your own house. I have always childishly held on to the magic of Christmas morning at my mom and dad's house. God has apparently decided that it's time for me to grow up. This year it's Christmas in SC unlike any other. No snow and not even cold weather. It was 70 degrees yesterday. It is supposed to be colder today, but it will still be vastly different from the weather we would be bundling up for in MI. I am very thankful to have family here in SC that we can get together and celebrate with. Not having mom and dad with us will definitely be hard, but we are determined to make everything fun and magical in our own way. Christmas is still Christmas. We still celebrate our Lord's birth the same as always. Josh and I are prepared to fill the Christmas tree with gifts from santa while the kids sleep tonight. I have baked goodies and planned fun stuff and attempted to make this our own magical Christmas. It will be magical and memorable, though different. I keep reminding myself that our kids will look back on this one day and wish they were here instead of where they are. Its crazy to imagine really. They will see being at our house for the holidays as special as we see being in MI. I have a huge responsibility to make this memorable!! With all these crazy thoughts written down, I feel it may be a jumbled mass. Thanks for reading and I will keep you posted as to the firsts of our OWN Christmas day:)

Christmas cleaning?!?!

Well today started out quite interestingly. JJ started complaining of a stomach ache, and I could not figure out if he was faking or not. Unfortunately, he has learned to fake, and I am still hoping that is all it is for today. I HATE stomach bugs and poor JJ seems to catch them all. I always end up coming down with it soon after he gets it, so as soon as I hear 'my tummy hurts' the anxiety of a long week sets in. Hopefully today's anxiety is all for nothing! So after this announcement this morning, I decided that the best way to make it through the day without worrying or hovering over him was to keep myself very busy. I did a few things throughout the house and then got really brave. Our guest bathroom is also the kids' bathroom. The caulking around the tub was not done very neatly before we moved in, and it has bothered me since. Sadly, we have lived in this house for 5 years, and I just got around to working on it:) It had one of those nice white sticky rings around it to hide the actual caulking but the white ring was starting to detach and needed replaced too so...I got really brave and decided to tear it all apart and do it over. Mind you, I am not a handyman at all so I am very happy for Google at times like these. A few hours after the start of my project, my arms desperately needed  a rest so JJ and I took of for Lowe's to get some supplies. (I brought the bucket just in case!) We got home, and I continued working on taking the old caulk off. It was some stubborn stuff and my forearms are now killing me from all of the chipping away! I got it off though and after thoroughly cleaning the area I bravely applied the new caulk. It is drying now, and I think it looks pretty good! I hope my husband agrees when he gets home. Silly me did not realize that it takes a good 24-36 hours for the caulk to fully dry. OOPS! We will all be bathing for a few nights in order to make sure its good and dry. I'm pretty proud of myself. After years of seeing that nasty stuff, I finally got brave enough to do something about it! I guess our Christmas guests will appreciate it too:)

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas:)

I tried to get cute pictures of the kids for a Christmas picture but they just weren't cooperating. This one is pretty cute and is still in the running:) We had so much fun with putting up all of our decorations and listening to Christmas music! I love this time of year. If you ask me, Christmas just brings a certain amount of magic with it. It's almost like the pulling out of winter coats and sweaters and the decoration of an evergreen tree just magically brings an extra ounce of happiness to everyone's step.

We got all bundled up on Friday night to see the big tree lighting at our local university and then again on Saturday to go to the Christmas parade. The kids enjoyed every minute, and it was a great way to kick off the Christmas season! I have been wrapping presents and buying gifts like crazy and cannot wait for Christmas morning!

Finally...an update:)

Well, blog friends, it has been a long while since a good update. I must admit...I have had writers block. I just could not put together a good 'blog' post for the life of me! However, after this most wonderful Thanksgiving, I have lots to be thankful for which provides much to write about. First and foremost, I am so thankful for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He has brought this family through a lot this year and is continuing to do so. He is my ever present Comforter when things seem overwhelming. I am also very thankful for my family. I have been under serious stress lately, and they have stuck by me through thick and thin. My gracious husband deserves a 'husband of the year' award for sure! I just love that we all work together to make each day special! I am also VERY thankful for my house and for two running cars. God is AWESOME!

Despite the stresses of life, my family is gearing up for a fantastic Christmas. Thanksgiving was a great kickoff to our fun filled holidays! Black Friday shopping was great, and I got a whole bunch of stuff crossed of my list. Just a few more things, and the Splan Clan will be ready for the big day! I keep getting 'oh yes...I forgot', 'oh, they need that too', 'oooooh, she needs this for Christmas','oooooooooh he needs that too', 'Im done..no I'm not...yes I am' thoughts that are causing me to come up with a million more ways to spend money this Christmas:) I love spoiling my loved ones and really cannot wait to see their smiling faces when they open gifts. We are very careful to keep the real meaning of Christmas at the forefront of out minds and hearts, but I love the tradition of gift giving. I really don't want to buy for myself...just for EVERYONE I love! It is definitely keeping me busy! Don't get me wrong, I don't spend a lot of money...I just put a lot of thought into each thing and try to spend a few dollars on everyone.

I'm loving the new look of my blog and hope you do too! Enjoy your pre-Christmas days and don't forget the real reason for the season!

Its official....:(

So the final word came today. Josh's newest employer will NOT give us any time to go home and see our families for Christmas. We have been down her for 5 years and have managed to get home every year. Somehow, this company's policy of only allowing 1 unpaid vacation a year managed to slip past us until after our 4th of July trip home. As fun as that was.....I would have traded it for Christmas:( I keep getting little thought bubbles of Scrooge yelling at my husband that he cannot take more than half a day on Christmas....What has happened to the world? I am still praying for a miracle but am also trying to prepare my heart for a MUCH different Christmas this year. The fact still remains that God is good all the time. I will have to remember this as the big day approaches.

The Time Has Once Again Come!

Well the blog stealer is at work again. What can I say, it has become my tradition to do this. :) Today the Splan Clan is decorating their Christmas tree. I do have to say that their tree has been up for a week, but do to a hectic schedule they are just getting the time to decorate it. I am enjoying sitting here listening to Christmas music watching the tree become beautiful. There are two little munchkins here who are so very excited about the changes taking place. I do have to say that for once I am also excited to see this taking place. I am usually so against it before thanksgiving, but this year since our parents cannot come, because of our mom's hip replacement surgery I am so ready for the whole holiday season to get started. :) I know that this year may be different, but I am praying that we all still get to go to Michigan for the wonderful Christmas Holiday.
The lights are on, and Josh is putting up the garland. JJ is jumping up and down with all the energy that he has. Miracle and Holly are sitting watching, waiting for him to finish so they can join in on the fun. Miracle is really hoping for snow, but I think she will have to wait for snow in the great SC for a while. Although I know that she is not the only one hoping that SC will have a BIG snow this year. :)  The ornaments are starting their trek to their home on the tree. The kids have great excitement as they help take ornaments to the tree. I do have to say that I love the magic of this year. Yes, I understand the whole meaning of Christmas is Christ coming for our sins, but it is also that time of the year when everyone seems kinder and happier. I love the anticipation and joy that all can share no matter where you are. Yes, the stores will be crazier, but that is all part of the experience. I hope that you all take time this year to enjoy what Christ has done and the special time with your family. Take time to be thankful for all those wonderful memories that you are getting to make this year.  Have a happy Thanksgiving and A VERY Merry Christmas!

Sick Day and Pumpkin Carving

My baby girl woke up with Strep throat this morning. She started complaining of a headache yesterday, and I heard the swelling of glands in her voice but hoped for the best anyway. Sure enough...this morning around 3am she came in my room complaining of a bad throat ache. I checked her temp and grimaced...probably Strep for sure. Being that it was Sunday and our pediatrician is only open from 1-3 pm for emergency appointments, I decided to take her to the ER because we could go earlier and it would be faster. Believe it or not we were in and out in 30 minutes with a positive strep diagnosis and some bubble gum medicine. This little girl is RARELY sick so she felt pretty special being the center of attention this morning. I was not feeling the greatest either with a terrible sinus headache so we came home and laid low the rest of the day....lots of cartoons and lots of liquids with a few naps in between. Hopefully, we will be feeling better in the morning!

Feeling pretty special in her spot on the 'sick' couch:)
While mom and sissy were feeling yucky, Daddy and JJ were carving pumpkins. Actually, daddy was carving the pumpkins because JJ would not touch the slimy stuff inside. He was all excited until he saw what he had to do....and he graciously decided to watch and let daddy do the work:)
Still in PJ's and carving pumpkins!
This is how they all turned out! My hubby is quite the artist when it comes to pumpkin carving!

All lit up on our front porch!
The kids love the end result and will definitely enjoy seeing them as we come and go over the next few days! Halloween is such a fun time of year! My kids enjoy the picking out costumes and the fun pumpkins! We totally ignore all of the bad connotations that come with the holiday and just enjoy a good old 'scary-fun' time!

Happy 4th Birthday, JJ!

I'm this many!
Happy Birthday, JJ! We love you!

Today is a big day. Four years ago on this day, I was laying in a hospital bed and wondering if I would ever get to eat again...and I had NO idea what kind of changes were about to take place in our lives. This little man finally came by emergency c-section at 4pm. He has been such a blessing to us!

This morning, I decided to put a little birthday tablecloth on his little table for when he ate breakfast. As soon as he saw it, he said "Thank you for making my table beautiful for me!" He has a big heart and his sister is his best friend. I hope that they continue to remain close as they grow! I think his sister is just as excited about his party today as he is!

I leave you with a picture of a monumental moment in our kids' lives.

As I child, my mother was determined to make us be a close family. She wanted us to value our relationships with our siblings. Now that I am an adult, I do love my siblings. They are very important to me. I want the same for JJ and Miracle. The other day they were picking at each other and I had to pull out an old punishment that my mom use to use on me and my sister quite a lot. They had to hold hands and look at each other. After a few minutes of this absolute torture they had to hug and tell each other they loved them. It was so cute, and it really does work. While they were holding hands, I gave the 'Your sister is your friend...Your brother is your friend. We are family and you two should love and respect each other' lecture. They were both laughing and giggling together again after it was over. I'm saving this picture for blackmailing purposes in the future!

Check it out...Miracle's new fall style

I new that adopting this little girl would give me some challenges as far as her hair was concerned. It did not matter though. I loved her from the moment I first saw her. God is so good to have allowed me to be her mother! I am proud to post yet another beautiful hair do! I hate to make her sit this long (with lots of breaks of course) but every minute is worth the smile on her face when she looks in the mirror!
Just look at my new hair!

a closeup...it took about 4.5 hours to do

She could not be happier! (She is shiny from a recent facial moisturizer:)
She is a beautiful girl...even if I am a bit biased!
